Beauregard Castle The ideal introduction to French and European history

Beauregard, former hunting lodge of François I, now a place of relaxation

Chambord is the symbol of the power of King François I, who made this hunting estate one of the most beautiful castles of the Renaissance.

Beauregard is the ideal introduction to French and European history, and to your journey through the châteaux of the Loire Valley, thanks to its unique gallery of 327 portraits of illustrious figures retracing 315 years of history.

The portraits have escaped from the château and guide you through the 40-hectare landscaped park to discover the portrait garden designed by Gilles Clément (Parc André Citroën in Paris), one of the largest rose gardens in the Loire Valley and the many botanical collections. And don’t forget the Golden Egg Hen and the wolf-killing sheep! Free trail games for the little ones and bicycles for hire in the park.

Portrait gallery

The portrait gallery is the symbol of Château de Beauregard. Acquired in 1545 by Jean du Thier, who built the present edifice. In 1617, Paul Ardier, minister to the kings, became master of the château and began decorating the portrait gallery. A gigantic task that the next three generations would continue.

In all, the gallery features 327 portraits, spanning national and international political history from 1328 to 1643. No fewer than 26 nationalities are represented. Château de Beauregard has been owned by the du Pavillon family since 1925, and its grounds have been designated a “remarkable garden” since 2005.
