The Château de Chenonceau is an exceptional site, thanks to its original design and the richness of its collections.

Owned by the Crown, then a royal residence, Château de Chenonceau is an exceptional site, not only for its original design and the richness of its collections, furnishings and decoration, but also for its destiny, since it was loved, administered and protected by women, all of whom were extraordinary and most of whom left their mark on history.

A “Château des Dames” in French history, built in 1513 by Katherine Briçonnet, embellished successively by Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Médicis, Chenonceau was saved from the rigors of the Revolution by Madame Dupin. This feminine imprint is present everywhere, preserving it from conflict and war and making it a place of peace from the outset.

Throughout its history, this emblematic château has always attracted talent and inspired the greatest artists. Passing on its beauty, combining the elegance of its architecture with that of its spirit, also means sharing a refined art of living.

Chenonceau's collections

Chenonceau boasts an exceptional museum collection of paintings by the great masters: Murillo, Tintoretto, Nicolas Poussin, Correggio, Rubens, Primaticcio, Van Loo… As well as a rare selection of 16th-century Flanders Tapestries.

At the Château de Chenonceau, each of the sumptuously furnished rooms is decorated with flowers, adding to its refinement. Chambre des cinq reines, salon Louis XIV, grand gallery overlooking the Cher, astonishing kitchens built into the bridge piers, Catherine de Médicis’ green cabinet… Step by step, Chenonceau takes you on a journey through history, dreams and secrets.

A visionary chateau from the Renaissance to the Age of Enlightenment, Chenonceau has constantly nurtured innovation, heir to the greatest thinkers and philosophers of the day.
