At Chaumont-sur-Loire, each season is its own wonder, inviting visitors to experience a natural environment made for peace and contemplation.
In 2007, the Centre-Val de Loire region acquired the château which, after a merger with the company which runs the International Garden Festival, became the Regional Estate of Chaumont-sur-Loire, Centre for Arts and Nature. Our goal is to create a unique place for artists and other disciplines to exchange ideas in a green setting. Each year, a dozen painters, sculptors, film and photographic artists around the world gather in the 21-hectare grounds, which become the natural setting for many new works created "in situ." The stables and rooms of the château are transformed into exhibition halls.
Since 2008, the number of visitors has doubled. A deserved success for this unique gathering point, place which reinvents itself each year. In 2009, a kitchen garden was installed at the southern entrance to the estate, where gardening enthusiasts can discover forgotten varieties such as the Morelle de Balbis, a delicious little red fruit, and "the nipples of Venus" (an amazing tomato variety!) Don't leave the château without having tasted one of the twenty gourmet creations of l'Estaminet, maker of delicious ice creams - try the hibiscus and rose flavours!
