Chitenay

Wine-growing Sologne village 15 km south of Blois, one of the 26 communes of Agglopolys.
Its 1056 inhabitants are called castanéens.

Denis Papin was born in this village on August 22, 1647, at a place called "Les Coudraies", in his grandmother's closerie. A famous physicist, mathematician and inventor, he is best known for his work on the steam engine and the famous Papin Marmite.

The village is grateful to him, and as a result, there are many different versions of the name:

And the local Castanean troupe "Théâtre de la Marmite".

A charming, tranquil and welcoming village with, among other things, the Auberge du Centre in the heart of the village and the châteaux of the Loire Valley. Here you'll find traditional cuisine and 26 cosy rooms with summer terraces.

From May to September, one weekend a month, the "Circuit Vapeur Denis Papin" opens its doors to the public to showcase its superb steam locomotives, on the "Franchepine" site (between Cellettes and Chitenay) covering an area of over 15.000m2 equipped with several model railways, including a 7-inch1/4 track over 250m long, where children can board a TGV!

For hikers, 3 permanent signposted trails take you through the Castanean countryside on PR routes. The information sheet, along with those for the 14 other communes belonging to the "Randonnées Vallées de Loire Sud" association, is available from the Chitenay town hall, the "Le Denis Papin" bar and the Cellettes and Candé-sur-Beuvron tourist offices.
