The town center's appeal lies in the density of its farmhouses, with their arched porches and mullioned windows. An ancient road running from southwest to northeast crosses the commune to the south of the village, taking what is now the chemin chaussée.
The village is grouped around the church and the 1889 town hall and school opposite the château. A number of narrow streets add charm to this ancient fabric.
The church, originally a 12th-century monument, was extended to the south by a low side in the 16th century. Only the steeple, a very imposing tower, was listed as a historic monument in 1948. Since April 12, 2011, following the discovery of wall paintings during restoration work, the church has been listed in its entirety.
Montlivault remains a rural village. Although 10% of its surface area is woodland, a large part is devoted to farming (yams, strawberries, vegetables and cereals). The diversity of shops, the artisanal zone and the numerous associations make Montlivault a welcoming village.
