Les ateliers Ghirlandaio et Botticelli : deux chefs-d’œuvre de la Renaissance à Chambord

  • Exhibition
Château de Chambord, 41250 Chambord
The National Estate of Chambord is displaying The Virgin and Child with the Young Saint John the Baptist from the workshop of Sandro Botticelli (1445–1510) alongside The Virgin and Child by Davide Ghirlandaio (1452–1525), an exceptional mosaic on loan until the end of summer 2026 from the Musée National de la Renaissance (Écouen).

The first work, an unsuspected treasure from the Church of Saint-Félix in Champigny-en-Beauce, recently authenticated as a 16th-century original, echoes the second, created using a different technique: mosaic.

This new aesthetic dialogue bears witness to the flourishing activity of the Florentine workshops of the Quattrocento and reminds us that the Loire Valley remains a land of the Renaissance where Italian artists had an influence.
