The commune, which backs onto the surrounding wall of the Domaine national de Chambord, lies in a privileged geographical location between the Loire and the forest, at the center of a triangle formed by the communes of Saint-Dyé-sur-Loire, Montlivault and Chambord. It is 15 kilometers from Blois and Mer.
Its balcony overlooking the Loire has earned it UNESCO World Heritage status as a Loire Valley village. The weather vane can be seen in the village square. Maslives has a dozen gîtes and chambres d'hôtes, as well as a hotel-restaurant with some 30 rooms.
In 2022, the village was voted France's most welcoming village.
