At Chaumont-sur-Loire, every season is a source of wonder, inviting walkers to a relationship with nature based on soothing contemplation.
In 2007, the Centre region acquired the château, which merged with the International Garden Festival to become the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, Centre d’arts et de nature. The aim is to create a place for artistic exchange, with nature as a green thread… Every year, a dozen artists, visual artists and photographers from all over the world take over the estate. The 21-hectare historic park becomes the natural setting for original works created “in situ”, and the stables and rooms of the château become exhibition rooms.
Since 2008, the number of visitors to the estate has doubled. A well-deserved success for a place that never ceases to reinvent itself. In 2009, for example, a conservatory kitchen garden was installed at the southern entrance to the estate, where gardening enthusiasts can discover forgotten varieties such as Morelle de Balbis, a delicious little red fruit, or tétons de Vénus, astonishing yellow tomatoes… Don’t leave the estate without tasting one of the twenty gourmet creations of the Estaminet ice cream maker, the delicious hibiscus and rose ice cream…
