Green spaces and gardens of Blois Nature and relaxation

Blois is certainly a city of art and history, but it’s also a city of gardens, such as the superb Rose Garden at the Bishop’s Palace or the King’s Garden.

Awarded the “Quatre Fleurs” label in 1997, Blois is a green city. Its many parks and gardens are meticulously tended, with a focus on sustainable development.

Some of these green spaces are particularly noteworthy for their location and history, such as the magnificent gardens of the former bishop’s palace, which today surround the town hall and offer a splendid panorama of the town and the Loire.

Roses by the hundred

From May 15 to September 30, on the lower terrace, the Roseraie offers a veritable symphony of colors, from white to orange to red and purple, with a rose created especially for the site, the “Roseraie de Blois” variety, in brilliant fuchsia. Each type of rose has been chosen not only for its appearance, but also for its fragrance. Prepare yourself for a pure olfactory delight! And right next door, the Garden of the Senses will delight you too: designed by a class of schoolchildren, it’s brimming with plants designed to stimulate visitors’ sense of smell and other senses.

The gardens of the royal castle

The royal gardens surround the royal château. Originally created by Louis XII, they were the first Renaissance gardens in France and were once used to grow fruit, vegetables and medicinal plants. Landscape architect Gilles Clément redesigned the space in 1992, creating three historical atmospheres: medieval, Renaissance and classical. Admire the lilies, irises and daylilies of the royal flower garden, as well as the aromatic and condiment plants of the simple garden. To welcome what each season has to offer, these gardens are open every day of the year.

Our advice The Park House

Since 2007, this former farmhouse in the heart of the Parc de l’Arrou has been a space dedicated to gardening, nature and landscape. All year round, activities and workshops are organized here, from learning how to create a perennial bed, to cooking with seasonal wild plants, or creating a vegetable garden. You’ll also find a library and toy library devoted to the plant world.

The Maison du Parc is open every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to midday and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tel: 02 54 43 56 44
