Blois-Chambord destination reveals the richness of the Loire Valley at a slower pace

There’s nothing better for a stay in the Loire Valley than to start by getting to know the Loire itself. A living link, the river gives the region its pulse, creating a veritable hyphen.

I sail on the Loire

For the past 30 years, the Maison de la Loire, located in Saint-Dyé-sur-Loire, has been exploring the river from every angle and in many different ways: fauna, flora and culture. With a new-generation visitor center and a program of activities for the whole family, don’t miss: the “teeth of the Loire”, walks to learn about the beaver, a twilight canoe trip, the “eco PatriLoire” trail, a canoe-kayak trip down the Loire with a topoguide, or the Loire nature camps for 8-16 year-olds.

To enhance your knowledge in a fun way, you can also visit the Observatoire Loire, a brand-new visitor centre at the gateway to Blois, close to the green haven of the Parc des Mées and the La Loire à Vélo trail. Games, re-enactments and observation exercises will tell you everything the Loire has to offer over the centuries.
You can even rent a bike to enjoy the river’s landscapes.

I almost do sports

The eldest is keen on sports, while the youngest prefers to take it easy? Loire Kayak has something for the whole family!

From the “classic” canoe-kayak to an introduction to stand-up paddling, not forgetting a trendy new activity – the “megacraft”, a raft designed to carry 6 to 8 people – and a group ride in a “vélo kayak” along the banks of the Loire on the cycle paths, there’s something for all tastes and ages.

And to round off a day dedicated to the river, a late-night stroll promises a magical experience, as the water plays with the rays of the setting sun. At Chaumont-sur-Loire, bivouacs are planned on the islands. A truly privileged moment.

I ride my bike

Did you know that you can cycle your entire holiday in the Loire châteaux?

All you have to do is choose the right accommodation and park the car right up to the start.
Every day, plan a short trip using the Châteaux à Vélo itineraries, to visit a château, visit a winegrower or enter the villages and forests of Sologne. Thanks to the signposting and specially laid-out routes, your vacations can be transformed into micro-adventures. Now that’s freedom!

Ask for the free “Châteaux à Vélo” map at your accommodation or Tourist Office.

I'm a little peckish

How about a picnic in the forest or on the banks of the Loire, along the “La Loire à Vélo” cycle path near Saint-Dyé-sur-Loire, or between Blois and Chaumont-sur-Loire? Windows on the Loire” have also been specially laid out, offering glimpses of the royal river through lush vegetation (Ménars, Saint-Denis-sur-Loire, La Chaussée-Saint-Victor, Candé-sur-Beuvron, Vineuil).

From the port of La Creusille in Blois, you’ll see the royal city of Blois, its Saint-Louis cathedral, château and Maison de la Magie, as well as the church of Saint-Nicolas (the former Saint-Laumer abbey church), whose two impressive spires pierce the Loire sky. The harbour has been laid out so that visitors can stay all afternoon (children’s games, guinguette, boat departure, pétanque pitch…).

Since the 2021 season, the Mendès-France promenade has been fitted out with 3 pergolas, on the right bank, near the Jacques Gabriel bridge.

Summer is the low-water period: islands and sandbanks appear as currents and low water flow, where you can rest for a siesta.
